Seven Things That Are Way More Disrespectful Than The NFL Protests

Over a year ago, #wokebae and quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, kneeled during the national anthem to protest police violence towards black people and people of color. Apparently, that was not an acceptable way to protest, because since then Kaepernick has been demonized by the NFL and its fans across all sectors of society. While other NFL players (and some owners) have joined Kaepernick, the protest has been called unpatriotic, offensive, and disrespectful. And the criticism has suggested that if you’re a person of color and not in the sunken place, white America doesn’t want your opinions.

In case these critics are just looking for something to be upset about, the following is a list of issues that actually deserve scrutiny.

Mass Shootings

The United States averages AT LEAST one mass shooting PER DAY. Let me repeat that in all caps: AT LEAST ONE MASS SHOOTING PER DAY. There’s been over 1,500 mass shootings since Sandy Hook in December 2012 and Congress has yet to act to make any real reform. Our government is cool with regulating women’s vaginas, but not military grade weapons. That is something to be be mad about!

Lack Of Access To Affordable Healthcare And Mental Health

Even WITH health care, many Americans run the risk of bankruptcy when seriously injured. Over 28 million Americans are uninsured, and Congress keeps threatening to repeal the Affordable Care Act for no justifiable reason. Killing people by taking away life saving healthcare seems pretty unpatriotic.

ESPN Suspending Jemele Hill For Breaking Their “Social Media Policy” Of Not Pissing Off Old White Men

Jemele Hill got a two week suspension for commenting on a sports related issue — which is kind of her job. And ESPN couldn’t handle it. Hmm. Sensing a pattern here…

The Normalization Of White Supremacists

White Supremacists rallied again over the weekend, and everyone acted pretty chill about it. Why don’t you send your nonsensical tweets to these bigots abusing free speech rights to spread hate and call for GENOCIDE. And while we’re at it, let’s also acknowledge and rail against the systemic white supremacy embedded in our institutions. It’s been time.

The NFL’s drug abuse, domestic violence, and widespread brain damage should be causing an uproar. Not a man expressing his political opinions.

In addition to the horror of the original colonization that founded this country, it’s 2017 and we still own colonies. See: Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the US Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands. This should make you sick. Are you sick yet?

Police Brutality Against Black Americans

Police have killed 931 people in the U.S. this year. Approximately 23 percent of those were black people, despite being only 13 percent of the population. Police are three times more likely to shoot a black person than a white person. There are no words for this egregious violence. It’s beyond offensive, disrespectful, and unpatriotic. Maybe someone should protest.
